About the guild
The South Florida Woodworking Guild was founded in 1986 and is a registered 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization made up of professional and amateur woodworkers who wish to preserve a standard of excellence in the craft by sharing information, resources, and techniques. Our Guild provides a home where tradition can be kept alive and new techniques can enhance the quality of the Guild’s members’ workmanship.
About Us
Our members range in skill from novice to expert and professional. We especially welcome and enjoy helping those who are new to woodworking. Our meetings include one or more demonstrations of woodworking techniques as well as a “Show and Tell” session where members display their projects and even brag a little. Visitors are welcome to come and experience woodworking in action! Vendors are also welcome to join the Guild.
The Guild meets monthly at the American Legion Post 321 in Cooper City, Florida. We hold eleven regular meetings per year, a tool auction in the fall (Oct/Nov) and in December a holiday party.
We have two ongoing special projects which serve as our way to give back to the community.
- Toys for children are built annually and provided to those in need in our community through the Child Net organization.
- Urns for Veterans are built on an ongoing basis by Guild members for Veterans whose remains lay unclaimed after their passing. We coordinate with the “Missing in America Project” which identifies the Veterans and spouses in local funeral homes and ensures a dignified burial at a National Cemetery.
